Bozcaada invites you to a weekend smelling wine on Traditional Wine Tasting Days to be held for the third time this year. The event was held for the first time in 2005 and is organized by local wine producers Talay, Corvus, Yunatçılar and Ataol, together with the support of the local administration and the Municipality on June 22, 23, and 24. A sweet smell of wine fills the narrow streets of the island during this event. Guests not only taste delicious wines of the island but also learn about the wine culture through the panels given by expert lecturers. Moreover, there will be music recitals and exhibitions in wine houses. Wine Tasting Days is a good opportunity to see and enjoy the island amidst excellent wines and music.

“God has created Bozcaada so that people could live longer”

After a visit to Bozcaada, it is impossible not to agree with the famous Greek historian Herodot. Its unique nature and history justify this saying about the island.

Bozcaada, Tenedos formerly, nestled many civilizations, like Pelazzis, Phonicians, Athens, Greeks, Alexander The Great, Byzantia, Venetians and Ottomans. This is due to its strategic position and various culture trails. According to the excavations, the history of the island dates back to 3000 B.C.

Bozcaada presents a heavenly atmosphere with its clear sea, thin-sanded beaches, centennial castle, very narrow streets, vineyards covering half of the island and Greek houses adorned with colorful flowers. There are many bays suitable for swimming. One of the most famous is Ayazma Beach. The wind is calm here, no matter how fierce it is in other areas. Moreover, the sea is suitable for water sports, especially diving.

The castle that is constructed on the northeast edge of the island over rocks was once surrounded by water. In it's place there is now a trench. There are many gravestones and historical pieces, and a room full of amphoras inside the castle. There are also many other historical buildings like Turkish baths, mosques, churches and castles. Aya Paraskevi Ayazma in the south of the island is one of them. The Ayazma Fest is held here on 25-27 July each year in order to commomorate Paraskevi, a girl who died due to the bitter grief of love according to legend.

Wine Making and Culture

Viniculture and wine making is the inheritance of the island. The marks of this tradition are on the coins with grape bunches from the 5th century B.C, and in the Homeros' Illiad and Evliya Çelebi's Seyahatname as the Bozcaada wines. The vineyard works are learned at a young age, and almost everyone knows how to make wine. Besides four big wine wineries, there are many small ones on the island. Tours of these factories are offered to those who are interested in wine making. Here visitors see what stages grapes experience before turning into wine. There are also shops where one can buy wine and taste samples.

The charming town that is nestled behind a fishing harbor offers a nice holiday to the island guests with its taverns, hotels, pensions and restaurants that serve various delicious fishmeals.
